A great dog Chow and Shih Tzu puppy recommendations

Our Recommendations for Raising your Puppy

We have been raising Chow and Shih Tzu puppies since 1979 at our same location in Fredericksburg, Iowa. Through out the years, we have seen and learned many things about dogs, sometimes the hard way. The following are our recommendations for your new puppy so that it will thrive, be healthy with no health issues. 1) Do not Spay or Neuter your puppy. Two very critical hormones will be removed that the puppy needs for proper growth and development and also help fighting off diseases. These hormones are the sex hormones Estrogen and Testosterone which are critical for health and growth. 2) Feed species appropriate raw fresh food, with mostly meat, as dogs are carnivores. Limit the carbohydrates as dogs are unable to digest many of them. Make sure that critical additions are made for essential Omega 3 fatty acids, organ meats and calciumin the ratio of 80% muscel meat, 10% bone or calcium. 5% organ meat and 5% liver. The organ meat and liver should also be fed raw as it contains many essential vitamines and minerals. Also sources of iodine and minerals like zinc need to be added (sea Kelp and pumpkin seeds) 3) Do not over vaccinate your puppy. After the core first vaccines are given, they should not be repeated. Do not vaccinate for Leptspirosis as many puppies have adverse reactions to this. Use titer testing whenever possible to ascertain the need for re-vaccinations, even Rabies. 4) We recommend the holistic natural approach to any health problems avoiding chemicals and drugs with harmful side effects. 5) Do not use chemical or drug based flea, tick and heartworm medications as they will lead to kidney failure. We use essential oils, diluted with water and spray the puppy each time it goes outside. Use Citronella, Geranium, Peppermint or other oils. These scented oils repel ticks and mosquitos which are carriers of disease.
